Romney and Candace Rogers
Romney C. Rogers was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and attended the public schools in Broward County, graduating from Stranahan High School in 1971. From there, Romney received his A.B. from Rutgers University and his J.D. degree at the Walter F. George School of Law, Mercer University. Married for 43 years to Candace Beard Rogers of Tifton Georgia, they have two sons, Dwight L. Rogers, IV (wife Blaire) and Romney C. Rogers, Jr. (“Cam”) and three grandchildren.Romney comes from a long line of Fort Lauderdale residents who have dedicated their time and energy to make our community, State and Country a better place to live. His Grandfather, Dwight L. Rogers Sr., also a Mercer Law School grad, after establishing the law firm of Rogers, Morris & Ziegler LLP in 1925, was both a Florida State Representative and Fort Lauderdale’s first U.S. Congressman. Romney is rated an AV Lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell and is the managing partner of the firm his grandfather founded, practicing in the areas of business transactions, real estate,estate planning, probate/trust administration and litigation, including commercial litigation. Hisson, Cam, the 4th generation of Rogers to practice in the firm, is also a partner in the firm and very involved in Church and Community programs. Giving back to the Community is an integral piece of the firm philosophy.In addition to his law practice, Romney served our community as a Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner for nine years in the same district where he grew up and went to school. He was honored at that time as Downtowner of Year by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber Downtown Council and Hall of Fame inductee from the Broward Education Foundation. He is a past chair of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce (where his father, Dwight L. Rogers Jr., also served), Past President of the Downtown Fort Lauderdale Rotary Club, and Advisory Board Member of Trust Bank. Mr. Rogers is a member of the Broward County Bar Association (past president Young Lawyers Section), The Florida Bar (past member YLS Board of Governors) the State Bar of Georgia, and Federal Courts in the Florida.Before being elected to the City Commission in 2009, Romney served the Community in many capacities including coaching youth league football, soccer and baseball, co-chairing with his wife Candace the Fort Lauderdale Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast Committee, Board Member of Rio Vista Civic Association, President of the Stranahan House, Inc., Board Member for Sheridan House Ministries, acting as Secretary and Trustee for Fort Lauderdale Police and Fire Pension Fund, City Attorney for the City of Oakland Park, and acting as Trustee and Deacon Chair of First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale. He currently serves in Board positions for Habitat of Broward and Live the Life South Florida.
Candace was born and grew up in Tifton,Georgia. She earned a BM in Music Education at Wesleyan College and has been a piano and guitar teacher for more than 40 years. Candace loves putting her musical talent to work at church and at Bible Study Fellowship, where she has led music for over 30 years and serves as a small group leader. She has served her community as the former co-chair with her husband Romney, of the Fort Lauderdale Mayor's Prayer Breakfast Committee. She is active in her church, a board member of Strikeforce 421, a women's giving circle, and Live the Life South Florida. Candace is very passionate about Kingdom work and enjoys using her time and musical background to encourage others on their spiritual journey.
Candace has been married to her husband,Romney for 43 years, they have two sons and three grandchildren.
